Dear Franklin Families, I am sure you are aware of the heartbreaking tragedy that occurred in a Texas school yesterday afternoon. Every parent's worst nightmare came true for 19 elementary school students. In response to this, we have police officers at all 3 schools today for extra security and to reassure students. We also have our counselors on alert to help students who need assistance processing their emotions in response to this horrific and traumatizing event. Please feel free to reach out to the schools if you sense that your child/children need some support. As always, it takes a village to safely raise and educate our children and you are a valued member of our village. Sincerely, Dan LeGallo SAU 18 Superintendent dlegallo@gm.sau18.org

HELLO FRANKLIN FAMILIES! The Franklin School District is applying for a federal grant through the US Department of Justice. The three year award would provide up to $1,000,000 to increase school safety by improving the overall social climate of the district. Your input regarding the current climate and safety of the district as well as suggestions for how to make improvements are needed. This program is based on the Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing School Violence Act of 2018 (or STOP School Violence Act). We currently have an award which is helping to develop our Behavior Intervention Teams, which provide a structured, evidence based process for assessing and following up on threats to self and others. I REALLY want to hear about YOUR ideas for improving climate and culture, systems to enhance our behavioral expectations and responses, etc.... These can be approaches which involve students, staff, families, community partners and any combination of such. Please take 5 minutes and complete this brief GOOGLE FORM for us by May 20, 2022. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdQjH1_6BK3_YnqgjQp9cq6wIewMTBU-PFWtSwPIhvxzOfnuA/viewform Please share this link with anyone in Franklin who might have valuable input, including your child(ren). If you have other ideas or would prefer to share your thoughts by phone or email, contact information is below. Thank you in advance for your time.
