October 2020
Dear Students and Families of the Class of 2021,
Senior year has arrived! Before high school seniors prepare to walk across the stage to receive a diploma, remember it is never too early to consider opportunities beyond high school. We urge students to work towards their potential academically and professionally by staying active in extracurricular activities, classwork, and career research.
Is your student planning on pursuing their education after graduation? Regardless of where you are in your college journey, below are a few opportunities to receive college planning and financial aid support.
I Am College Bound/I Applied (Virtual) College Application Day
11/12/2020 /Time:
Since 2014, NH’s “I Am College Bound/I Applied” initiative has helped more than 4,850 students file over 11,500 college applications. The program has grown from six NH public high schools to 54 for 2020. And our high school is one of them!
Our virtual college application day is scheduled for __November 12, 2020__________. Encourage your student to participate and receive awesome assistance from knowledgeable volunteers – like College Admission Representatives, School Counselors, and The NHHEAF Network’s Center for College Planning Counselors – as they submit college and program applications. Students can ask questions, receive essay feedback, and have their college application(s) reviewed before submission.
I Am College Bound/I Applied brings high school seniors together to celebrate the incredible achievement of applying to college! Additionally, -_____________________.
The Center for College Planning is hosting two I Am College Bound/ I Applied senior -prep workshops in October to help seniors get ready for their events.
Thursday Oct. 22nd @ 3:00pm
Session 1: College Essay – student focused zoom workshop will cover how to best approach and write college essay, give tips and examples as well as some free writing time for students to work. (Approximate time 30-45 minutes, ask school counselor for link to sign up).
Thursday Oct. 29th@ 3:00pm
Session 2: The Common App – student focused zoom workshop will help students navigate the Common App, supplemental applications and give tips for best ways to fill it out. (Approximate time 30-45 minutes, ask school counselor for link to sign up).
Remember, there is a postsecondary program and future plan for all high school graduates interested in continuing their education – not all college journeys look the same. We also encourage families to contact NHHEAF’s Center for College Planning at 888.747.2382, x119 for free advice on the college admissions process.
FAFSA Note:
Students applying to college may now file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2021 – 2022 academic year; this is the first step toward receiving federal aid. Students may submit the FAFSA before they send college applications, but they will need to have at least one school on their college list to file. Changes can be made to the school selection portion of the FAFSA until the college’s deadline, so if your student’s college list grows in the next few weeks, there is the option to add (or remove) colleges in the future. Looking for help in filing this critical form? The Center for College Planning offers free, 60-minute appointments to help families file the FAFSA, which helps to make college more affordable. To schedule an appointment, contact the Center for College Planning as noted above.
We look forward to working with your student!
Sincerely,
Desiree Smith Melissa Fraley
